North State BIA home tour kicks off this week

Perfect for potential new home buyers, the North State Building Industry Association (BIA) is pleased to announce the 2017 Sacramento Home Tour scheduled for October 12-15. Proudly sponsored by La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings & Décor, the 2017 home tour includes more than 40 new home communities and 150 model homes in seven cities within the greater Sacramento region. Model homes on the tour will range from 1,298 square feet to 4,357 square feet, from two to seven bedrooms, that start from the upper $200,000’s to the low $900,000’s. Participating Home Tour cities include Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, Lincoln, Rocklin, Roseville, Elk Grove, and Folsom.

Aerospace Museum to debut interactive new TAKE FLIGHT Exhibit

The Aerospace Museum of California is proud to present an interactive new exhibit titled TAKE FLIGHT that will be available for guests to explore and enjoy from October 17, 2017 through January 9, 2018. With a variety of dynamic elements and multiple activity stations, guests of all ages will begin to understand the fundamentals needed to achieve flight. The new TAKE FLIGHT exhibit will occupy approximately 2,000-square feet of space on the ground floor inside the impressive Museum.

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown Sacramento is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month. Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, participating in hands-on activities, meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.  On Saturday, October 14, 2017, a sampling of the offerings presented by Midtown galleries and businesses include the following:

  • ARTasylum (2017 I Street #B) – an artist studio, gallery, and boutique in Midtown – presents a special show titled "October Moon” along with an art demonstration, “meet the artists” opportunity, music, complimentary refreshments, an art project and art class giveaway;

Late last year, Elk Grove made national news from a story that showed both the good and bad of humanity. The bad side on that story may well be the first of many to come.
As readers may recall three suspects, Destiny Pettway, Maria Westley, and Disney Vang were arrested on suspicion of prostitution and pandering after using a ride share service to reach an Elk Grove hotel. Their victim was a 16-year old girl.

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long. This fall, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Area Museums (SAM) are offering fun Halloween, Día de Los Muertos and harvest-related events and activities – some for families, children only or specifically for adults.  A sampling of the special activities is listed below (but please check with the various museums and/or destinations for more detailed information):

Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Some people refuse to stay buried. Come to the Old City Cemetery if you dare and dig up creepy and sordid tales of corpses gone missing, disinterment, body snatchers, and mistaken identities. Who will arrive? Who will survive?

The Sacramento Historic City Cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. There is free parking on surrounding streets. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811.

Living history ghost tours are back in Old Sac!

As part of the fun and interpretive Old Sacramento Living History Program, the eerie and ever popular one-hour “Ghost Tours” return for three weekends on October 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 & 28, 2017! 

Old Sacramento guests will have the opportunity to relive 19th century lore. Guides (and ghosts) will relate tantalizing narratives about the deaths of colorful citizens from Sacramento’s history. And guests will have the chance to see these not-so-dead Sacramentans. Departing every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and departing from the Sacramento History Museum, daring and inquisitive guests will be led through Old Sacramento’s infamous locales to experience the darker side of California’s history. Don’t miss these special Living History “Ghost Tours” beginning in mid-October.
