Volunteers needed to Transform Grant High: July 24-27

The Sacramento Tree Foundation is looking for 250 volunteers during the week of July 24-27 to participate in their largest planting event of the year.

This summer, Grant High is undertaking a massive makeover. For years students have walked along the barren pathway that connects Grant High School main campus to the West Campus.  During warm months it's a sweltering trek and during wet months a long dash for shelter.  During the week of July 24th-27th all of that will change with a massive overhaul and planting party.

The project was conceived and planned by students from the GEO Environmental Science and Design Academy at Grant High School working in partnership with UC Davis Landscape Architecture students.  Their plan includes replacing asphalt with permeable pavement and installing vegetated bioswales to recharge groundwater and filter storm water run-off. The students are providing much of the labor, but with over 1,500 plants – including 200 shade trees, they need additional community support.

Give an hour, or give half a day to help transform Grant High. All tools and materials for this project will be provided.  Staff from the Sacramento Tree Foundation and Grant High's GEO Academy students will guide volunteers in proper planting and basic tree care. If you part of a large group, you can register up to 10 people at a time.  Take this opportunity to say "I was there!"  Please RSVP at www.sactree.com/events
