It’s All Aboard for Story Time! with Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Adam Moffat as a celebrity guest reader on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the California State Railroad Museum. To the delight of young children and soccer fans alike, Moffat will read the children’s book Thomas and the Big, Big Bridge (Thomas & Friends). Originally from Scotland, Moffat joined Sacramento Republic FC this season bringing with him MLS experience to the wildly popular local professional soccer team.

Back by popular demand, Sacramento Area Museums (SAM) will offer a fun and interactive booth at the California State Fair (July 14-30, 2017) in an effort to showcase the variety and diversity of offerings available in the region. State Fair guests are invited to imagine, explore and discover more about local museums and destinations at the visually-exciting Sacramento Museums booth that will be located in Building B (southwest corner).

In addition to providing helpful information about the nearly 30 SAM member museums, the Sacramento Museums booth will include a number of hands-on activities every day that include the following:

5 Local “Blue Star Museums” Offer Free Admission to Military Personnel & Their Families This Summer

Five Sacramento area museums will participate in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day (May 29) through Labor Day (September 4), 2017. The five local museums participating in Blue Star Museums include the following:  California Automobile Museum, California Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Fairytale Town and the Sacramento History Museum.

Get ready for some summertime fun!  Instead of the traditional summer camps for kids, think about local museums and destinations that also offer unique and fun activities.

From learning more about art to archery or creepy crawlers to deep space, nearly a dozen Sacramento area museums and destinations are offering special hands-on summer classes, camps and activities for kids.
