Trying to bake!

Trying to bake!

Well, I finally gave it a shot and took a stab at baking a loaf of bread. I've gotta say that it's pretty involved. Overall I think it came out pretty darn good.

This mixer has been sitting on my countertop for quite a while just calling my name. I have the dough-hook attachment and it makes the process a lot less physically draining. You pretty much dump in the ingredients and it does most of the hard work for you.

I tried a fire roasted onion loaf recipe that I got from a Paul Prudhomme book that I own. Wow! I think I gained a few pounds.

It came out a little flat, I think. I put it in my oven thinking that the pilot light would keep it warm enough during the rising. I'm wondering if it was too cool in there. Maybe I don't have a pilot light in there? Dunno.

Fall is in the air in form of Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Fall is in the air in form of Pumpkin Spice Lattes

The temperature may still be close to 100 degrees in Sacramento, but you know fall is in the air when Starbuck’s brings out their Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Can you believe that after all these years I have never had a pumpkin latte? This is because I don’t like coffee – even sugary sweet drinks that barely taste like coffee.  In fact, I don’t even like drinking tea at board meetings because they always put the hot water in urns that have been used for coffee  which makes my tea taste like…yes, you’ve got it…coffee!

But I admit that I feel like I’ve been missing out when it comes to the Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks, especially when I see all my Facebook friends posting how wonderful it is. Just check out these posts.

Carlene Minyen - Starting the day with a pumpkin spice latte makes the day so much more pleasant.
