Trying to bake!

Trying to bake!

Well, I finally gave it a shot and took a stab at baking a loaf of bread. I've gotta say that it's pretty involved. Overall I think it came out pretty darn good.

This mixer has been sitting on my countertop for quite a while just calling my name. I have the dough-hook attachment and it makes the process a lot less physically draining. You pretty much dump in the ingredients and it does most of the hard work for you.

I tried a fire roasted onion loaf recipe that I got from a Paul Prudhomme book that I own. Wow! I think I gained a few pounds.

It came out a little flat, I think. I put it in my oven thinking that the pilot light would keep it warm enough during the rising. I'm wondering if it was too cool in there. Maybe I don't have a pilot light in there? Dunno.

Rose Classification Part II

Rose Classification Part II

Join us for a workshop about "modern" roses in the Historic Rose Garden.  These include roses in the classes introduced after 1867, including Hybrid Teas, Hybrid Musks, Polyanthas, Floribundas, Ramblers and Large-Flowered Climbers.  Many of these roses were grown and loved by in the 19th and 20th centuries, and are still popular today.  Rose garden volunteers Bill Harp and Anita Clevenger will describe these roses and how to recognize and grow them, pass around samples, and lead a tour into the Historic Rose Garden to look at how these roses grow.  Parking is across from the 10th St. entrance.

Workshops are free; however, donations are appreciated and go for restoration and preservation of the rose garden.
