Today, Making Way for Tomorrow, While Revealing Yesterday.

Work is underway at the corner of 8th and Broadway to convert what had been most recently, “First Tabernacle Fellowship Church”, into medical offices.   Crews removing the old façade from the church at 801 Broadway uncovered a bit of history.   The sign on the building behind the façade says “Ed Fries Body Shop….Since 1933, 24 Hour Towing”.     I can find no record of Ed Fries Body Shop.    I don’t know  when they moved in or out of the building. And while the real estate listing says this building was built in 1982, I think it is much older.   Maybe not back to 1933, although many buildings in the area date to before World War II, including the New Helvetia housing project across the street.  Doing a Google search , I do find other past  tenants of this building.  “AAA Wig”s, “ Sacramento Urban Indian Health Project”, and “ New Opportunities Adult Daycare”.    Only time will tell who the next tenant will be.
