1988 Land Park murder suspect arrested

SACRAMENTO, CA - The long arm of the law reached out and made an arrest in a 25-year-old Land Park murder on Wednesday.

The Sacramento Police Department says Manuel Morales, 51, was found dead, with multiple stab wounds, in the gutter of 14th Avenue on Oct. 19, 1988.

Detectives learned Morales was last seen the night before in his 1980 silver BMW as he drove several female associates to their homes.

The BMW was found later the morning of Oct. 19 and blood evidence was taken from it.

Last summer, the California Department of Justice analyzed the evidence for DNA and found it matched DNA in the CAL-DNA data bank for a Stanley Grow, police said. Grow's DNA was in the system for a felony arrest.

Detectives arrested Grow, 52, as he left his home from the back door on the 3600 block of Gayle Way in North Highlands.

The police news release did not offer a possible motive for Morales' slaying.
